August Division Winner Value Board - August 11th Update

August Division Winner Value Board - August 11th Update

Earlier this month, we introduced the August Division Winner Value Board.

The concept was simple.

Instead of trying to predict who would win each season-long division, we simulated the August schedule 2,000 times and asked:

Which team will post the most wins in its division during August?

Then we compared those probabilities with the DraftKings market.

We followed that with our August 5th update. Now, with 10 days of August results in the books, the exercise gets even more interesting.

We have actual results incorporated into the board, updated post-trade deadline team ratings and a shrinking remaining schedule.

So we've rerun the month and rebuilt the Value Board.

Just like in today's update to the overall August Most Wins market, we're not trying to defend yesterday's numbers or simply chase the teams at the top of the standings.

Results change. Probabilities change. Prices change.

We're asking one question:

Where does the market disagree with the Basewinner simulations today?

AL East

TeamAugustBW ProbabilityBW FairDK Odds
Tampa Bay Rays8-163.20%-172-140
Boston Red Sox6-315.10%+562+310
New York Yankees4-411.90%+740+1200
Toronto Blue Jays6-49.55%+947+600
Baltimore Orioles3-60.25%+39900+3500

⭐ Best Value: New York Yankees +1200

Tampa Bay has earned its position as the favorite.

The Rays are 8-1 and have a 63.20% probability of finishing August with the best record in the AL East. Interestingly, even Tampa offers a little value at -140 versus our -172 fair price.

But the more interesting number sits further down the board.

The Yankees are only 4-4, yet our simulations still give New York an 11.90% probability of winning this market.

That's approximately:

BW Fair: +740

DraftKings: +1200

The Yankees also showed up as our BW Bomb at +3500 in today's overall August Most Wins update.

That's worth noting.

Two different markets using the same underlying simulations are telling us the same thing: the market may have pushed New York too far after its relatively slow August start.

⭐ AL East Best Value: Yankees +1200

🚫 BW Fade: Boston Red Sox +310

Boston has played well at 6-3, but the current price is getting ahead of our projection.

DraftKings is offering +310.

Basewinner has Boston at only 15.10%, corresponding to approximately +562 fair odds.

Baltimore has an even more extreme discrepancy at the bottom of the board, but with only a 0.25% model probability, we're dealing with a different type of wager.

Among the legitimate contenders, Boston is the cleaner fade.

AL Central

TeamAugustBW ProbabilityBW FairDK Odds
Detroit Tigers6-263.00%-170-215
Cleveland Guardians2-614.95%+569+950
Chicago White Sox3-512.70%+687+650
Minnesota Twins3-68.45%+1083+900
Kansas City Royals3-60.90%+11011+1400

⭐ Best Value: Cleveland Guardians +950

This might be my favorite example on the entire board of why we run the simulations.

Cleveland is 2-6.

Detroit is 6-2.

If we were simply handicapping from the current August standings, there wouldn't be much to discuss.

But we're not.

The question is whether +950 adequately compensates us for Cleveland's current deficit and remaining path.

Our simulations still give the Guardians a 14.95% probability of finishing with the AL Central's best August record.

That translates to:

BW Fair: +569

DraftKings: +950

Cleveland has absolutely put itself in a hole.

Our numbers suggest the market may be pricing that hole too aggressively.

⭐ AL Central Best Value: Cleveland +950

🚫 BW Fade: Detroit Tigers -215

Detroit is the most likely winner.

There is no argument from our model about that.

The Tigers have a 63.00% probability, corresponding to approximately -170 fair odds.

DraftKings is asking bettors to lay -215.

Detroit's 6-2 start has earned the Tigers favorite status.

It hasn't earned -215 according to our simulations.

This is an important theme in these markets:

Most likely doesn't automatically mean value.

AL West

Houston Astros5-430.50%+228+265
Seattle Mariners3-56.75%+1381+950
Athletics2-74.50%+2122+1700
Los Angeles Angels3-63.70%+2603+1500

⭐ Best Value: Houston Astros +265

Texas and Houston have identical 5-4 August records, but the simulations still favor the Rangers.

Texas wins this market 54.55% of the time compared with Houston at 30.50%.

The issue is price.

Texas is -145 against a Basewinner fair price of approximately -120.

Houston is +265 against a BW fair price of approximately +228.

It's not one of the giant discrepancies on today's board, but Houston is the better side of the market according to our numbers.

⭐ AL West Best Value: Houston +265

🚫 BW Fade: Seattle Mariners +950

Seattle's 6.75% Basewinner probability translates to approximately +1381 fair odds.

DraftKings is offering +950.

The Mariners are certainly alive, but the market is asking us to accept a price shorter than our estimated probability warrants.

The Angels also grade as overpriced at +1500 versus +2603 fair, but Seattle represents the cleaner probability-based fade.

NL East

Philadelphia Phillies7-363.15%-171+130

New York Mets6-35.10%+1861+360
Miami Marlins4-42.95%+3290+1300
Washington Nationals4-52.55%+3822+1500

⭐ Best Value: Philadelphia Phillies +130

Here we go again.

Philadelphia was the headline of today's overall August Most Wins update.

The Phillies were our favorite at +1100 when that market opened. They're now 7-3, and today's updated simulations still made them our Best Value in the overall market at:

DK +800

BW Fair +336

Now look at the division market.

Basewinner gives Philadelphia a 63.15% probability of posting the NL East's best August record.

That's approximately:

BW Fair: -171

DraftKings is offering:

+130

That's an enormous discrepancy.

And it creates one of the most interesting cross-market signals we've seen in this series:

Overall August Most Wins
PHI +800
BW Fair +336

NL East August Most Wins
PHI +130
BW Fair -171

The model doesn't just like Philadelphia in one market.

It likes the Phillies in both.

⭐ NL East Best Value: Phillies +130

🚫 BW Fade: New York Mets +360

The Mets are 6-3.

That's the appealing part.

The price is the problem.

DraftKings is offering +360.

Our simulations give New York only a 5.10% probability of winning this market.

That translates to:

BW Fair: +1861

That's one of the largest disagreements between our simulations and the market anywhere on today's board.

Atlanta is the legitimate second choice behind Philadelphia.

At +360, the Mets are being priced much closer to that tier than our simulations believe they belong.

NL Central

TeamAugustBW ProbabilityBW FairDK Odds
Chicago Cubs7-256.50%-130-165

Cincinnati Reds4-410.50%+852+550
St. Louis Cardinals5-48.45%+1083+1000
Pittsburgh Pirates0.35%+28471+5000

⭐ Best Value: Milwaukee Brewers +425

The Cubs have built the early lead at 7-2 and remain the most likely winner.

Basewinner puts Chicago at 56.50%.

But once again, price matters.

The Cubs are -165 versus a Basewinner fair price of approximately -130.

Milwaukee is the interesting alternative.

The Brewers have a 24.20% probability, corresponding to fair odds of approximately:

BW Fair: +313

DraftKings: +425

That makes Milwaukee the best value in the NL Central.

⭐ NL Central Best Value: Brewers +425

🚫 BW Fade: Cincinnati Reds +550

Cincinnati has a 10.50% probability in the simulations, corresponding to approximately +852 fair odds.

DraftKings is offering only +550.

Pittsburgh has a more extreme discrepancy at the bottom of the board, but we're again dealing with a microscopic probability.

For an actionable fade among teams with a legitimate path into the race, Cincinnati is the better choice.

NL West

TeamAugustBW ProbabilityBW FairDK Odds
San Diego Padres7-353.00%-113-125
Arizona Diamondbacks6-433.00%+203+180
Los Angeles Dodgers2-713.00%+669+800
Colorado Rockies0.60%+16567+5500
San Francisco Giants0.40%+24900+3000

⭐ Best Value: Los Angeles Dodgers +800

The Dodgers appear again.

They're only 2-7 in August.

San Diego is 7-3.

Arizona is 6-4.

Yet Basewinner still gives Los Angeles a 13.00% probability of recovering and finishing with the NL West's best August record.

That translates to approximately:

BW Fair: +669

DraftKings: +800

It's not an enormous edge.

But it is value.

And it's another example of the model refusing to simply extrapolate the first 10 days of the month through August 31.

The Dodgers have dug a substantial hole.

At +800, we're finally being compensated for some of that risk.

⭐ NL West Best Value: Dodgers +800

🚫 BW Fade: Arizona Diamondbacks +180

Arizona is having a good month at 6-4 and remains a serious threat.

Our simulations give the Diamondbacks a substantial 33.00% probability.

But that translates to fair odds of approximately +203.

DraftKings is offering +180.

San Francisco and Colorado have much larger relative discrepancies, but their probabilities are both below 1%.

Among the teams that can realistically win this market, Arizona is the price we'd rather avoid.

Three Prices That Stand Out

If I'm boiling the entire August 11th board down, three numbers jump out.

🔥 Philadelphia +130

This is the strongest combination of probability and price on the board.

Basewinner has Philadelphia at 63.15%, making the Phillies a substantial favorite.

DraftKings is giving us plus money.

And it reinforces the signal we're already seeing in the overall August market.

👀 Cleveland +950

This is probably the most interesting number.

The Guardians are 2-6, so nobody looking only at the standings is going to be excited about Cleveland.

But Basewinner still gives them a 14.95% probability.

BW Fair: +569

DK: +950

That's exactly the kind of disagreement this series is designed to uncover.

💣 Yankees +1200

The Yankees are showing up again.

They were today's BW Bomb at +3500 in the overall August wins market.

Now they're +1200 in the AL East market versus +740 BW fair.

The Yankees aren't the most likely winner of either market.

But the model consistently thinks the market has pushed their price too far.

Same Simulations. Two Different Markets.

This is what makes pairing today's two posts so useful.

Earlier today, we looked at the market for the most wins in all of MLB during August.

Now we're using the same underlying simulation framework to attack six smaller division markets.

And we're seeing some of the same signals appear twice.

Philadelphia: value overall and value in the NL East.

Yankees: BW Bomb overall and value in the AL East.

Meanwhile, Cleveland shows why this process can uncover opportunities that aren't obvious from simply looking at the standings.

That's the entire point.

We're not ranking teams.

We're pricing probabilities.

As August continues, we'll keep rerunning the simulations, updating the market prices and tracking how these races evolve.

The board will change.

That's what makes this fun.

August records and DraftKings prices reflect the August 11, 2026 market. Basewinner probabilities are based on 2,000 simulations of the August schedule.
